W e are extremely happy to announce the launch of our new website! We look to begin to populate these four resource areas further in the coming months and welcom

What Happened on the Eastern Sierra Outing?
Eleven OCCers had a fantastic time exploring the waters and landscape of the Eastern Sierra from September 5 to September 9, 2019. Members tried their hands at brookies and rainbows at 10,000+ feet on both Lee Vining and Rock Creeks; rainbows, browns and cutthroats in the lush pasture of Lower McGee Creek; and browns and rainbows in the canyon settings of Hot Creek and the San Joaquin River. Thank you to the trip leaders: Dan Zimmerlin and John Thiele! The participants (in no

Kistler Ranch Bass Outing
The weather was great! The company was even better. The bass were biting! Vlad caught fish! Sometimes, the cuss words were bigger than the fish, and sometimes, the fish were bigger than the smiles. It was an epic day, whether you caught fish or not! Fun was had by all. Vlad... Happy to be catching fish! Elaine G.... It's all about FAMILY!

Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout
Despite the weather forecast, The OCC went to Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout Lakes! Although water clarity wasn't optimal, we still caught fish! Check out the photos. And guess what? The weather was pretty good. Our next trip will be to Kistler Ranch for bass... March 16 and 17. Send Glen (glozawa@yahoo.com) an email if you would like to join us for that trip!

OCC Public Casting Lessons Increasing in Popularity
The Oakland Casting Club hosted our public casting lessons, led by Luis Montes. Although it was a hot day, a large group of people learned how to fly cast from some of the best casters in the nation. We pride ourselves for providing the best lessons in the Bay Area: our classes are intentionally small so that we can provide a student-to-teacher ratio ranging from 1:1 to 3:1; participants who do not have their own equipment can borrow rod-reel combos; the weather is usually a

East Bay Times Profiles OCC Member!
Read all about it! Read all about it! Nicole Kozicki, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Officer of the Year in 2017, has been profiled in the East Bay Times. It's a great article , and as you can imagine, Nicole's mom (Alice Gillibert) is beaming. When you encounter a CDFW Officer while fishing, please remember to thank him or her for helping to protect our environment.

It's Never (NEVER!) Too Late to Learn!
St. Mary's Garden, an affordable housing community for seniors, visited the ponds on May 16 for some casting demonstrations and lessons. Our OCC ambassadors were Alice Gillibert, Elaine Gong, Mike Young and Charlie Kobata. Alice reports that, "It was awesome! The laughter was contagious!" We are honored to have been asked by Aliona Gibson to host her group. When are you coming back?

Did We Finish Cleaning The Pool?
With the help of many members, you bet we did! Thank you to everyone who came out and thank you also to those who wanted to come, but couldn't help us. We could not have done it without you. Here are some pictures of the process. First, we created a whirlpool by walking in a big circle (top right and top left). This process suspends the organic material collecting on the bottom and causes it to be drawn towards the center of the pool where it drains out. As the water rece

OCC Member Scores a Perfect 100!
LUIS MONTES scored a perfect 100 in Trout Fly Accuracy competition at Sunday's casting tournament! It is believed less than a dozen individuals have ever scored a perfect 100 in Trout Fly competition! Hitting 15 out of 15 targets, making mandatory dry, wet and roll casts over 3 rounds, is no easy feat, but directly related to fundamental casting and line management skills needed for trout fishing! The Trout Fly game was devised by OCC's first World Casting Champion, JIM GR

Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout Lakes
On February 4, The Oakland Casting Club had a fish outing to Eagle Canyon Trophy Trout Lakes . This was Tim Howe's first trip as our new Outings Director, and it was a fantastic trip! Thank you, Tim! We would also like to thank Mitch (MPFF), Ivan (DVFF) and Brandon for helping to make the trip even more enjoyable. Mitch's generosity in sharing his knowledge and flies (Andy needed three bunny leeches) helped turn around fishing for some of us in the afternoon. We are sooo gla
